The first game of the year is usually very exciting and brings with it promises of this finally being the year. Of course, an hour drive to Grosche can take that energy out of the best of us. Personally, I like the stadium up there but it is a haul and getting home at 1 a.m. because no one could get the key box to open to lock the place up was only tempered by the fact that we won.

The game itself was pretty well played given that most of us have not been on a field in 6 months. However, with the wind blowing out hard, I heard rumors of it being anywhere from 20-30 mph, straight out to center, it was a long night. This is the type of game that proves that everyone should be playing “real” baseball using wood bats. 6-2 game if we were.

Hats off to the Longhorns for playing the game hard and playing with class. There is a shortage of class in the MSL with teams not respecting their opponents but worse, the game itself. Good luck to them the rest of the way.

Nutwise, it was nice to get the band back together, albeit missing some pieces. It was a good feeling to see everyone hitting well and unlike years past, no one got down when I continually gave up the lead during my innings on the mound. Even though it sucked, I never felt as if we were going to lose the game. I know the energy was down, when all the red bulls finally wore off and the long drive caught up to everyone. I am very happy that I could finish the game myself to make up for the bad pitching and to send us home winners.

Looking forward to the Lookouts, shorthanded or not.
